The Masters of Arts in Film and Media Program is designed to shape and refine your POV, enabling you to create a body of work that is reflective of who you are as a filmmaker. You’ll be taught by working writers, producers, sound professionals and creators who focus on the fundamentals of the craft while embracing future forms of storytelling and technology.

The Masters of Arts in Film and Media Program emphasizes experiential learning and focuses on the latest trends and advances in the industry. The curriculum balances practice with theory and has been specifically designed to keep up with the constant advances in technology, ideas and trends, both practical and aesthetic.

FACULTY

MA in Film and Media faculty include a list of producers, directors, screenplay writers, sound specialists, and sound editors for Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominated films. The list also includes a PBS NewsHour Producer, audio engineers and music technologists, and a freelance writer and contributor for "This American Life".

The Johns Hopkins MA in Film and Media brings the industry to Baltimore, as our students grow their professional network while creating a two-way bridge between the local burgeoning film scene and the industry hubs in Los Angeles, New York and abroad. Courses are held at the JHU/ MICA Film Centre, Baltimore’s new film studio and recording centre in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District.

Recording Studio

Courses and workshops feature current case studies that help expose students to the latest tools, equipment and resources in specific fields. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Students take 11 courses, including the two-course Graduate Filmmaking Studio and a capstone within the required course sequence. Students take at least eight elective courses from two concentrations within the areas of Writing for Film and Television, Sound Production and Design, and Business of Film and Media.
